Before using a digital printer, the substrate must undergo surface treatment-specifically, the application of a surface treatment agent (coating).
These agents do not alter the material's surface properties; instead, they serve to enhance color vibrancy and improve pigment adhesion.
The surface coating process significantly impacts the quality of the subsequent color printing:
Identify the specific material to be printed and apply the appropriate coating for that material.
Ensure the coating is fully air-dried or heat-dried before printing.
Ensure the coating is applied evenly and remains clean. An uneven coating can lead to issues such as poor ink adhesion (resulting in spots) or ink bleeding. Maintaining a clean, debris-free surface prevents dust and contaminants from compromising the print quality.
